Málaga: Expat’s Favourite City

The superb quality of life in Málaga has resulted in the 2023 Expat City Survey ranking it the best city in the world to live.

The annual survey is run by InterNations whose 4 million members spread across 220 cities around the world ensure that it is the largest global community and source of information for people who live and work abroad.

This year four Spanish cities have been voted amongst the top ten – indices where Málaga comes in at number one are Personal Finance, ease of settling in, local friendliness and climate and weather.  It comes in an impressive second for quality of life and leisure options, eighth for natural environment and travel and transit, tenth for healthcare and thirteenth for working abroad. 

All in all 88% of expats surveyed are happy with their life in Málaga, compared to 72% overall.

In 2023 more than 12,000 expatriates representing 171 nationalities and living in 172 countries or territories across the globe provided information on a wide range of topics related to living abroad.  Thanks to these insights, the “2023 Expat City Ranking” offers an authoritative overview of the best and worst rated cities for expats worldwide.  For a city to be included, a sample size of at least 50 survey participants is required, with 49 cities meeting this threshold in 2023.
